The construction process is fun and challenging.
The painting and design of the small details of the boat can be done individually and promote creativity.
The end result is a detailed little boat that can make its rounds in still waters with the appropriate components.
Tony has summarised the entire construction process on our YouTube channel in three video parts.
1930s Steam Tug Kit, 1:18, Size 720 x 180 x 270 mm, Tony Ray Tug
In the 1930s, steam tugs were an important part of inland and coastal transport because they could move even heavy cargo efficiently.
Their robust construction and reliable steam engines enabled them to be used in a wide range of applications, from shunting in ports to towing large barges on rivers.
However, during the global economic crisis, many operators came under financial pressure, which led to modernization and austerity measures.
With the advent of powerful diesel and later electric engines, the number of steam tugs declined sharply in the following decades.
Nevertheless, some examples have been preserved and today serve as museum or excursion ships, recalling an important era in maritime industrial history.
