This aeroplane is a wonderful glider for beautiful hours of flying in the summer twilight (SD7032 profile).
The end result is a decelerating model aeroplane with a guaranteed fun factor.
The DFS Kranich has a filigree design and is suitable for slope flying and motorised towing to a limited extent.
If required, a motor can be installed at the pilot's discretion.
A friend of Tony's has summarised the entire construction and flight operation on his YouTube channel in three video parts.
DFS Kranich model aircraft, 1498 mm wingspan, 1:12 scale, SD7032, Tony Ray
The DFS Kranich was a two-seater glider developed in the 1930s by the German Research Institute for Gliding (DFS).
Designed under the direction of designer Hans Jacobs, it served as both a training and performance glider.
Thanks to its robust construction and good flight characteristics, the Kranich quickly became popular in German gliding clubs.
During the Second World War it was also used in military flight training.
Even after the end of the war, some examples remained in service, so that the crane can still be seen today in museums or at historical air shows.
