DH53 Humming Bird Slow Flyer kit, 500 mm wingspan, 1:20, Clark-Y, Tony Ray
The de Havilland DH.53 “Humming Bird” was designed in the early 1920s as a cost-effective light aircraft.
It was a single-seat low-wing aircraft with a wooden frame and fabric covering, which was particularly economical to operate thanks to its small engine.
It was originally intended for use by private aviation and flight schools, but was only produced in limited numbers.
Despite its modest size and performance, it demonstrated good flight characteristics and was in some cases also used for demonstration and competition purposes.
Today, only a few examples remain, and they are displayed in museums or at historic air shows as reminders of the early era of light aircraft.
